My Approach

Therapy that meets you
where you actually are.

Not where you think you should be. Not where you were. Where you are right now — and what it would take to feel differently.

The Foundation

“The most important thing I do in therapy isn’t any technique. It’s create a space where you feel safe enough to be honest about what’s actually going on.”

Everything else — the tools, the techniques, the frameworks — they only work once that foundation is in place. So before we do anything else, we build it.

How I Work

Trauma-Informed
from the Ground Up

Trauma-informed doesn’t just mean “I work with people who have trauma.” It means I understand that what looks like a behavior problem is almost always a nervous system response. That what looks like resistance is often self-protection. That your body has been keeping score long before you found words for any of it.

This shapes everything about how I show up — how I ask questions, how I respond when something difficult surfaces, how I pace the work so we move at your nervous system’s speed, not a calendar’s.

You will never be pushed to go somewhere you’re not ready to go. But we will gently keep moving toward what you came here to change.

What this looks like in practice

  • —You set the pace. I follow your lead.
  • —We pay attention to your body, not just your thoughts.
  • —Your reactions are treated as information, not problems.
  • —We look for the root, not just the symptom.
  • —Safety is built before depth is explored.

Primary Treatment Modality

EMDR Therapy

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. The name sounds clinical; the experience is anything but.

Here’s the plain-language version: when something traumatic or deeply distressing happens, the brain sometimes can’t fully process it — especially if it happened when you were young, when you were overwhelmed, or when there was no one safe to help you make sense of it. That unprocessed material gets stored in a raw state, and the nervous system keeps responding to it as if it’s still happening.

EMDR uses bilateral stimulation — typically eye movements or gentle tapping — to activate the brain’s natural processing system. The memory doesn’t disappear. But it loses its charge. What was raw becomes something you can remember without being flooded by it.

You don’t have to retell your story over and over. You just have to be willing to look at it, with support, in a way that finally lets your brain finish what it started.

EMDR is one of the most thoroughly researched trauma treatments available. It’s recommended by the American Psychological Association, the World Health Organization, and the Department of Veterans Affairs. It works — not because it’s magic, but because it works with how the brain actually heals, not against it.

I use EMDR for trauma, PTSD, anxiety rooted in past experience, grief, shame, and the kind of deeply held beliefs about yourself that didn’t come from logic — they came from something that happened.

EMDR may be right for you if…

  • ◆Talk therapy alone hasn’t moved the needle
  • ◆You understand your patterns but can’t seem to change them
  • ◆You have memories that still feel present, not past
  • ◆Your body reacts before your mind can catch up

My early clinical years were spent in residential treatment, grounded in 12-Step philosophy and working alongside colleagues in active recovery. I learned what it takes to build a spiritual program — and what it looks like when it works.

What This Means for You

Experience built
in the deepest end.

My clinical foundation was built in residential treatment centers, crisis stabilization, and intensive outpatient programs — working with people navigating addiction, co-occurring disorders, and the kind of pain that doesn’t wait for a scheduled appointment. That work shaped me. And it made clear what I most wanted to do: sit with one person at a time and go deep.

Trauma has always been at the center of this work for me — not just clinically, but personally. It’s where I’ve witnessed the most profound transformations, in my own healing and in the people I’ve had the privilege of sitting with. I hold a deep respect for the courage it takes to go there. That’s what drew me to this field, and what continues to drive me.

From my earliest clinical years, I sought out every training that could make me more effective with trauma survivors. EMDR wasn’t just a credential to add — it was an answer to a question I’d been asking since I started: how do we help people heal what talking alone can’t reach?

The Telehealth Model

Good therapy doesn’t require
a waiting room.

I’ve been in private practice for over a decade, and moved fully to telehealth when COVID made it the only option — and never looked back. Not because it was convenient, but because I watched it work. Clients in their own space are often more relaxed, more honest, and more able to access what they came to therapy to work on.

There’s also something I value deeply about telehealth: it removes barriers. Geographic distance, a packed schedule, the logistics of getting somewhere — none of those have to be reasons to delay getting support.

All sessions are conducted via secure video through TherapyPortal. You need a private space and a reliable internet connection. That’s it.
